Medical, Dental,Vision, Life and Disability Insurance
Nanogen currently pays the premiums for most insurance coverages for our employee. Employees share in the premium cost for covering eligible family members.
Our comprehensive health plan is available for all regular full-time employees and eligible family members, with coverage generally beginning on the date of hire.
Medical and Prescription Drug Coverage Nanogen offers two medical plans, a PPO and/or HMO, to choose from in most areas. Both plans offer a Prescription Drug benefit offering access to a network of participating pharmacies where covered prescriptions are filled for a minimal co-pay per 30 day supply of medication. We also provide a mail order prescription program offering reduced expenses on maintenance prescriptions.
Dental Coverage We offer a Freedom of Choice dental plan.
Vision Coverage Nanogen offers a vision plan that provides annual eye exams and scheduled lens prescription coverage.
Life and Disability Coverage We offer life and disability coverage for all regular full-time team members with coverage generally beginning the first of the month following date of hire.
Nanogen provides basic life coverage at two times base annual earnings up to a maximum of $500,000. (Employees who are interested in obtaining additional life insurance coverage above what Nanogen provides may also apply for a supplemental (employee-paid) policy at group rates.)
Nanogen provides short (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) policies. LTD will pay 60% of the employee's weekly income, up to a specific limit, should an employee become disabled.
Nanogen provides short (STD) and long-term (LTD) disability benefits that provide a level of income should an employee become disabled.
Time Off
Nanogen offers an attractive paid time off schedule, with full time employees accruing 120 vacation hours (3 weeks) in their first year of employment. Eligible employees accrue an additional 8 hours each following year up to 200 hours (5 weeks) per year maximum in the 11th year of service.
In addition, each calendar year Nanogen provides a total of 12 paid holidays.
Savings Benefit
401(k) Savings Plan Nanogen's 401(k) Savings Plan is available to assist employees in meeting their long-term financial goals. Employees may contribute up to 50% of gross/pre-tax pay (subject to IRS guidelines) to Nanogen's 401(k) Savings Plan. In addition to employee savings contributions, Nanogen may provide a discretionary matching contribution in Nanogen stock for employees who participate in the plan.
Employee Stock Purchase Plan Employees have the opportunity to share in Nanogen's future through participation in the Emplyee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). Employees may allocate up to 15% of salary, after-tax, for the purchase of Nanogen common stock at a discounted rate. Contributions are made through payroll deductions and purchased stock is automatically deposited into the employee's brokerage account.
Stock Options Nanogen employees receive stock options allowing them to share directly in the company’s financial success.
Other Benefits
Optional Flexible Benefits Plan Employees may elect to pay for certain expenses (i.e., dependent insurance premiums, non-covered medical/dental care costs and child care costs) with pre-tax dollars through Nanogen' s Flexible Benefits Plan. Participation in the program usually results in significant tax savings for the employee.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Short-term counseling and referral services are available to all employees and members of their household through Horizon Health or an affiliate. EAP services are 100% paid for by Nanogen and are confidential.
Educational Assistance Nanogen offers reimbursement for courses taken at accredited schools that are directed toward the employee's current position or another position at Nanogen.
Events and Activities
TGIFs Nanogen hosts employee socials called TGIFs, providing free food, beverages, and a chance to socialize with co-workers.
Holiday Party Nanogen hosts a semi-formal Holiday Party for employees and their guest.
Company Picnic Each summer, Nanogen hosts a company picnic for employees and their families. Picnics have been held at local parks, SeaWorld, and the zoo.
Community Outreach Nanogen supports the community by hosting on-site blood drives, participating in fundraising events, and conducting annual food and toy drives.
