S-100 RUO

The S-100 protein is an acidic calcium binding protein found predominantly in the cytoplasm of astrocytes and Schwann cells in the central nervous system. In human brain tissue, S-100 exists mainly as two isoforms - the ßß homodimer (S-100ß) and the aß heterodimer (S-100a). A third isoform - the aa homodimer (S-100aa) is found mainly in striated muscle, heart, and kidney.

The Nexus DX™ S-100 RUO* test kit is specific for the b subunit of the S-100 protein and it measures the b subunit concentration of both ßß and aß isoforms of the protein.
