Microarray

Electronic Microarray

The heart of our technology is the patented NanoChip® Electronic Microarray.

Applying a positive electric current to individual test sties on the microarray enables rapid movement and concentration of negatively charged DNA and RNA molecules. Nanogen’s technology involves electronically addressing biotinylated samples, hybridizing complementary DNA reporter probes and applying stringency to remove un-bound and nonspecifically-bound strands after hybridization.  The NanoChip® microarray technology provides an open platform that allows customers to easily run common assays as well as customize their own assays.

  • 100 or 400 site microarrays
  • DNA and RNA assays
  • Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), short tandem repeats (STRs), insertions, deletions and other mutation analyses

Electronic Addressing

  • One or more test sites are activated with positive charge
  • Biotinylated samples or probes are bound to streptavidin permeation layer on the chip at those sites
  • Activated test sites are turned off, allowing for reporting

Reporting

  • Red and green fluorescently-labeled probes or samples are hybridized to bound complementary biotinylated strands
  • NanoChip® systems scan the chip and automatically analyze red and green fluorescent ratios to determine results

Reuse

  • After reporting, samples/probes are washed off and other samples can be added
  • Non-used (unactived, unbound) sites can be saved for future use

Multiplexing

  • A single test site can be stripped and re-probed for multiple reportings
  • An aliquot from a single sample well can be bound to multiple test sites for high-level multiplex analysis
